While Rick Perry started out fairly strongly, he's quickly been losing his momentum. His initial success seemed to rise from the Republican party's slight skepticism with Mitt Romney, who seems like the best choice of the bunch. He has suggested some strongly conservative views that make his positions attractive to the GOP but less so if he actually won the candidacy because he could lose the more moderate vote. Rick Perry seems like the kind of man that America envisions as their president. He has the whole strong looks and cowboy from Texas persona that is appealing to the common man.
He has emphasized his everyman position and even bashed Obama for “his thinking that he's the smartest guy in the room," which believes hurts America especially through foreign policy. This idea might have some merit if he didn't make mistakes whenever he opened his mouth. From his bizarre and questionably intoxicated behavior during his speech in New Hampshire to his unfortunate inability to remember the Department of Energy, Perry just can't seem to get it right.
I would be surprised if he was able to turn around his numerous gaffs during debates and appearances. It seems unlikely that he would get the Republican nomination, but maybe his memory will start kicking in and things will go his way.
